For me, this new 24-105 will be too much extra size, weight, and price over the already excellent 24-105 F4. Yes, my RF 24-105 f4 is an outstanding lens. It's my go-to lens for event photography.
EOS RP (RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM) Stills: Manual: ±3 stops in 1/3- or 1/2-stop increments, AEB: ±3 stops in 1/3- or 1/2-stop increments. Movie recording: ±3 stops in 1/3- or 1/2-stop increments. Real-time metering using the image sensor, 384-zone (24x16) metering, Still: Evaluative, Partial, Spot & Center-weighted average.
The current IBIS tech in mirrorless bodies makes the F4 more than adequate for a variety of light situation. If they make it F2.8 and double the weight/size, not to mention price, who is going to carry this around all day. It defeats the purpose of having a 24-105 zoom in the first place.
The Canon RF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM has some incredible image stabilization that I truly can't fault at all. It's a great lens in many ways. Weight. Φ3.29 x 4.22 in., approx. 1.54 lbs. / Φ83.5
Canon RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM: Image Circle: 35mm (RF-mount) Type: Standard Zoom: Focal Length: 24 - 70mm: APS Equivalent: 38 - 168mm: Weight: 395g / 0.87 lbs. Notes: For Canon RF-mount
Canon RF 24-70 f/2.8 vs RF 28-70 f/2 (AKA: The Beast) If you are into photography and gear, and especially if you are a big Canon fan (like me). You may have been loosing your mind ever so slightly over Canon’s announcement of their new, professional mirrorless camera bodies.
